On the morning of November 21, the signing and unveiling ceremony of SGCC-HUST Future Power Grid Institute was held at HUST-SEEE.
Kou Wei, Executive Chairman and Party Secretary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), and Shao Xinyu, Party Secretary of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), jointly inaugurated the SGCC-HUST Future Power Grid Institute. Li Yuanyuan, President of HUST and Member of the CAE, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Liu Zehong, Deputy General Manager of State Grid, and Chen Jianguo, Vice President of HUST, signed the "Cooperation Agreement for the Construction of the Future Power Grid Institute between State Grid and Huazhong University of Science and Technology" on behalf of the two parties. Vice President Chen Jianguo presided over the ceremony.
In his speech, Li Yuanyuan reviewed the long-term and all-round cooperation between HUST and the State Grid in power system, energy internet and other fields. He hopedthat the "Future Power Grid Institute" can give full play to the profound scientific research accumulation and disciplinary advantages of our university's electrical disciplines, integrate the cutting-edge technologies of emerging disciplines such as artificial intelligence and automation, form an interdisciplinary and cross-cutting research team, and become an important platform for scientific and technological breakthrough, resource sharing, talent training and achievement transformation. It is also expected that the Institute can break through the disciplinary barriers and deeply integrate big data analysis, artificial intelligence technology, high-end communication technology and power system analysis technology to realize the collaborative development of technology, policy, market and environment, so as to give full play to the platform and hub role of power grid in the optimal allocation of resources, guarantee the safe and reliable supply of energy and electricity in China, promote the low-carbon transformation of energy system in China, and ultimately provide important support for the construction of "Two-oriented Society" (resource-economical and environment-friendly society).
On behalf of the State GridCorporation of China, Kou Wei congratulated the joint research institute on its official inauguration. He pointed out that guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and thoroughly implementing the new energy security strategy of "Four Revolutions, One Cooperation", State Grid creatively put forward its strategic goal of "Three Functions and Two Networks, World-class" at the beginning of 2019. This is a very groundbreaking complex system project, especially the construction of Ubiquitous Internet of Things in Electricity (IOTE), which has no precedent at home and abroad and faces unprecedented challenges, and urgently needs scientific and technological innovation and support. The establishment of the Institute marks that the innovation consortium has entered the substantial operation stage. The Institute will focus on IOTE, new energy and comprehensive energy system, carrying out basic prospective and common technology research, which is of great significance to realize the deep integration of industry, university, research and application, and break through the technical bottleneck of the development of the power industry. The company will actively support the construction of the Institute, increase R & D investment, fund the establishment of joint research projects, and jointly carry out scientific research; At the same time, it will give full play to advantages in the market and practice, promote the transformation of achievements, and make good use of "experimental field" for innovation and application.
Academician Pan Yuan from HUST delivered a speech on behalf of the Academic Committee of Future Power Grid Institute. He put forward his vision and expectation for the Institute, envisioned that the future power grid is the most functional, efficient, safe and highly intelligent and ubiquitous power grid, hoped that the Institute would fully mobilize the advantages of universities and modern successful enterprises, and aim at the cutting-edge science and technology of future power grid, so as to realize the great leap forward in innovative development.

Before the unveiling ceremony, Chen Jin, Party Secretary of SEEE, gave a presentation on the discipline construction of the School. SEEEhas relevant research results in large power grid security, smart grid andIOTE, which are consistent with the future development direction of the State Grid, and the School hopes to build a good base for innovation research, talent pooling and talent training, and help the Institute become a base for scientific and technological breakthrough, resource sharing and a platform for achievement transformation.
After the unveiling ceremony, Mr. Kou Wei and other guests of the State Grid, accompanied by President Li Yuanyuan and Deputy Party Secretary Zhou Jianbo, visited the History Museum of HUST.
Thereafter, the first meeting of the Future Grid Council was held in the Electrical Building of HUST-SEEE. At the meeting, the Constitution of the Future Grid Institute was reviewed and approved, and the list of members of the joint institute was announced. At the same time, in the Lecture Hall of SEEE, Academician Guo Jianbo, Deputy Chief Engineer of State Grid, gave SEEE teachers and students a lecture entitled "State Grid Three Functions and Two Networks, World-Class New Strategy" - Future Power Grid Institute.
