On May 24, 2019, the Institute of Fusion and Plasmas Research of SEEE realized the first electron cyclotron resonance heating on the J-TEXT Tokamak. The plasma electron temperature has been raised by 50% and has successfully exceeded 14 million degrees Celsius, which is a key step toward advanced physical experimental research.

The J-TEXT device of SEEE is the only large and medium-sized tokamak device in China's universities. The conventional heating method is ohmic heating. In order to effectively improve the operating range of the J-TEXT device, the team of Wang Zhijiang and Xia Donghui started the research and development of the ECRH system at the end of 2016, and completed the commissioning of the system on April 12, 2019. Through more than a month of intense preparation, the institute optimized the J-TEXT device and ECRH system operating parameters. On the afternoon of May 24, 2019, microwave power was successfully injected into the device, and obvious heating effect was observed. The first electron cyclotron resonance heating experiment was successfully completed. The next step will focus on the physical experiment under high-parameter conditions.
