On March 25th, invited by IEEE IES Wuhan Chapter and SEEE, Prof.Leopoldo G. Franquelogave a distinguished lecture about “Remaining Useful Lifetime Management of Modular Power Converters: Advantages and Collateral Negative Effects” through DingTalk.

The lecture of Prof. Franquelo was hosted by Prof. Xu Wei, Chairman of IEEE IES Wuhan Chapter. First, Prof. Xu briefly introduced Prof. Leopoldo Franquelo. Then, Franquelo presented his lecture titled " Remaining Useful Lifetime Management of Modular Power Converters: Advantages and Collateral Negative Effects ". At this seminar, Franquelo introduced the advantages of modular power converters and then discussed an advanced active thermal control method of converters in detail. By intelligently managing the power units in the module structure, the system usage and maintenance costs can be effectively reduced, but also with some negative effects. Finally, the lectureintroduced how to use conventional technology and modulation methods (such as phase-shifting and interlaced operation) to effectively reduce the negative effects of modular power converters, thereby improving the operating performance of the system.

Biography

Leopoldo G. Franquelo received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Universidad de Sevilla, Seville, Spain, in 1977 and 1980, respectively. His research interests include modulation techniques for multilevel inverters and application to power electronic systems for renewable energy systems. Dr. Franquelo has been an IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) Distinguished Lecturer since 2006. He became an Associate Editor for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS in 2007, the Co-Editor-in-Chief in 2014, and has been its Editor-in-Chief from 2015 to 2018. In 2019, he founded and served as the first editor-in-chief of IEEE Open Journal of the Industrial Electronics Society. He was the Vice President for IEEE IES Conferences (2004–2007), and the President Elect of the IEEE IES (2008–2009). He was the President of the IEEE IES (2010–2011) and is an IES AdCom Life member. He was elected as IEEE Fellow in 2005 and IEEE Life Fellow in 2020. He has received a number of Best Paper Awards from IEEE journals. In 2012 and 2015, he was the recipient of the Eugene Mittelmann Award and the Antohny J. Hornfeck Service Award from IES, respectively.
